The Secretary.

Sir,

I expect you will think i am mad writing you again, well Sir i am frantic after what has happened on friday night, wife had a very bad turn and the doctor who always attends her told me before he left that there was NO HOPE OF THE WIFE LIVING MORE THAN THREE MONTHS AT THE OUTSIDE.

He said it was dangerous to move her the cancer has got to one of the lungs, i sat up two nights with her and now have arranged for a neighbour to come in daily at ten shillings a day. so that i can rest for the nights.

This is what made me do this mad thing in writing, i enclose my last bank stub showing what i have in the house sixteen pounds and few shillings.

I do hope some thing will be granted to me otherwise well i really dread to think of it as a funeral here costs at the cheapest over £50.0.0 and i would have to sell my furniture to get all that and then the docters bill is mounting up and paying this woman for a week or two i am frantic with worry.

If i can get sufficient help after the wife has gone i can sell most of what i have and go up country where it is cheaper.

So do Sir forgive this letter.
